THEME: Olympic Minds Change the World

Our Academy has 4 age categories. 4~7, 8~11, 12~14, 15~18. English is the main language of delivery at 3 levels: native, intermediate, and basic. We also have an optional Japanese language and culture stream. The program includes classroom based learning of weekly themes, combined with experiential and hands on learning projects, activities, and outings, Overall, the program is locationally & experientially diverse, and it is designed according to our philosophy of communicative skills building through engagement and problem solving.  Weeks 1, 2, 3, 6, and 7 are held in Tokyo on a day camp basis (Mon-Fri, 09:00~16:30). Weeks 4 and 5 are away weeks to locations outside of the city that are socially, historically, and culturally relevant to the themes of the Academy (during these weeks, accommodations & board are included).

Our summer academy is a full summer of fun, learning, challenge, and discovery. The Academy runs for seven weeks each summer, from mid July through the end of August, and is located at exciting locations in Tokyo, Okutama, and beyond. Further deepening our collaboration with the UNESCO Chair on Global Education,  2020 International Youth Summit will be held during Week 5  Whether you choose to participate in 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, or the full 7 weeks of camp, you will experience different places, people, and challenges each week. You may choose any combination of weeks, starting on any Monday and finishing on any Friday. The theme of the Academy is “Olympic Minds Change the World,” and within that, each week has its own unique focus.

Exciting Learning Adventures for Kids (5~11), Teens (12~18) … in Two Streams!

The Cross Summer Academy is an international immersive learning experience for all ages, and there are two streams to choose from: 1. the Japanese Language & Culture Stream and the 2. the English Language Mainstream.

No matter where you are from, Japan or any other country in the world,  you may choose either.

Should you decide to join the Japanese Language & Culture Stream you will spend your mornings with other international students engaged in learning the basics of spoken and written Japanese, as well as discovering and participating in many Japanese cultural, social, and traditional activities.  In the afternoon you will join with the entire camp population and all of those participating in the morning English Language Mainstream where you will engage in multilingual projects, performances, tours, activities and experiences together.

Should you prefer the English Language Mainstream, you will spend your mornings learning in a completely English environment and working on exciting and inspiring topics that match the Camp and Weekly themes (see below for details). Once again, in the afternoon you will join with the entire camp population and all of those participating in the morning Japanese Language & Culture Stream where you will engage with all academy participants in multilingual projects, performances, tours, activities and experiences together.

Important Note: We are currently in process of making improvements to the Cross Summer Academy. In 2020, we are planning a unique and even better experience than the 2019 Academy. As a consequence, while we are not planning major change, some of the events, activities, and locations may change accordingly.
